Fox’s Motor Co. started life as “The Oundle Buying Company” back in early 2019 when it was formed as a “side hustle” to provide an income for founder Josh Fox as he strived to open a local motocross track with two friends and business partners. The aim of The Oundle Buying Company (TOBC) was to be somewhere that the general public could liquidate their assets (such as cars, motorbikes, caravans, watches etc.) which would then be sold on for, hopefully, a profit.
Whilst the motocross track was a drain on Josh’s bank account, TOBC went from strength to strength and quickly gained a reputation as a very reliable place to sell your vehicle with fantastic prices offered.
Fast forward one year and Covid hit which sent car prices soaring through the roof due to the demand for used vehicles. Fortunately, with a steady stream of vehicles coming in already, it was then very easy for Josh to sell them on due to the market demand. Trading in cars, vans and motorbikes quickly became the backbone of TOBC with the amount of vehicles being sold per month doubling in early 2020.
In October 2020, Josh received news that the motocross track he and his partners had been trying to open had failed in its bid to gain planning permission. This major blow coincided with the much happier news of the birth of his and partner Jess’ first child, Freddie. So with the failure of the motocross venture alongside having a new mouth to feed, it was very fortunate that TOBC was starting to build nicely. Josh now had the resources and the time to dedicate fully to TOBC as well as the extra motivation of having a small family to provide for.
By early 2023 and now regularly selling 3 or 4 vehicles per week from the front door or local car parks, a new premises was desperately required. Therefore TOBC took over units 8 and 12 at Barnwell Manor Estate. At this stage, Josh thought that the current business name was no longer relevant to the company and thus “Fox’s Motor Co.” was born. Many of the car dealers that Josh admired had put their names to their companies and the cars they sell and as such wanted to follow suit.
Not long after taking over the new premises, the incredibly talented Nathan Hall came on board as a part time mechanic to repair and service the vehicles that needed work doing and any that came back in for warranty work (which is fortunately very rare). This was a blessing as it meant not having to rely on outside garages to fit the work in. A bonus for both the company and customers.
The unit has ample storage for cars and motorbikes but also benefitted from additional room to expand into which is exactly what happened in May 2024 when a service and repair garage was opened up to the general public with part time mechanic Nathan going full time.
And that leads us to this present day where the company is moving along nicely in the right direction.
If there is anything that we can help you with, whether you are looking to buy or sell a car or need to book in for a service, then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
A word from Josh Fox
When I started up The Oundle Buying Company, I probably didn’t expect it to lead to where it is now but it has been and continues to be a journey that I am enjoying wholeheartedly. It is true that if you love what you do, you do not work a day in your life.
I feel incredibly lucky to have found a role that I love and which enables me to provide for my family. My little boy Freddie is now a regular sight in the showroom.. a better salesman than his Daddy by far.
The thing I love most about this company is the variation. We do not want to be the “conventional garage” full of fast-talking suited salesman with big shiny watches and even bigger, shinier teeth. Some customers like that, but it isn’t us. We are who we are, the vehicles we sell are what they are.. nothing hidden or covered up.
We offer a wide variety of vehicles, just looking at the showroom now we have a mixed bag of stock including a completely original 1986 BMW 316 Auto, 2022 CCM Spitfire Skunkwerx Edition, 2018 Mercedes C63 AMG and a 2014 Fiat 500 with only 17,000 miles. With the variation of stock we sell, it brings with it a varied range of customers which is one of the best things about my job.
Rest assured that if you ever do business with us, you will be treated as an individual and not a number and we certainly wont overcharge you for the privilege.
Thank you for visiting our website and I look forward to personally welcoming you in the future.
